Scottie Scheffler erased a four-shot deficit in five holes and then delivered the dagger with a chip-in birdie from 81 feet at the par-3 17th Sunday at the BMW
Scottie Scheffler completed his second-largest comeback of his career to win the BMW Championship, overtaking leader Robert MacIntyre, with a 15-under finish.
Professional golf is unlike most other sports. Each week, golf courses on the PGA Tour can vary dramatically. This week’s BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills — a venue that isn’t an annual PGA Tour stop and underwent renovations since hosting the 2021 event — has drawn plenty of analysis from fans and media members alike.
Despite the frustration, MacIntyre had a window back into the tournament after Scheffler three-putted the 14th and the Scot birdied the 16th to get within one. That’s when Scheffler pulled off his magic at the 17, and MacIntyre’s hopes were dashed.
By closing with a 3-under 67 for a 2-shot victory, Scheffler became the first player since Tiger Woods (2006-07) to win at least five times on the PGA Tour in consecutive years.
