Do you use Microsoft Office Accounting or its free sibling, Office Accounting Express? Well, then, take note: Microsoft is discontinuing both of those programs one week from today.

The company said Office Accounting Express 2007 is designed to replace the pen-and-paper or spreadsheet software many small businesses use for accounting.

Microsoft is spiking its Office Accounting software family and will stop distributing the products as of Nov. 16, according to a posting on the company’s Web site.

The free product, called Office Accounting Express 2007, provides full cash- and accrual-based accounting, Microsoft said.

Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007 integrates with other Microsoft Office software and will be included in the Small Business, Professional and Office Ultimate versions of Microsoft Office 2007.
