New Jersey school districts have called for closures and delayed openings on Thursday due to a winter storm expected to include a dangerous mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for all 21 counties with the exception of Jersey Shore towns.

While some districts canceled school Tuesday, like Independence, others in Johnson County, Kansas used a delayed start plan for the first time.
