Alabama’s newest public beach recently opened, providing access for swimmers, paddlers, anglers and a nautical-themed playground for children.

The legendary SS United States, once the fastest ocean liner in the world, made a rare appearance off the Palm Beach County coast on Feb. 26 before heading to Alabama for a final cleaning.

For public safety reasons, we also closed off the small Alabama Point East section of beach by the Perdido Pass bridge (shown on map) for spring break, which will be through most of April.
