As Russia celebrates its 80-year-old victory over Nazi Germany, Putin wants the world to see that despite the new conflict in Europe, he still has friends in high places.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (local time) officially designated May 8 as Victory Day for World War 2, commemorating the 80th anniversary of America's victory in the Second World War.Trump said that all of US World War 2 allies were celebrating Victory Day.

Veterans groups disagreed with the move, saying it detracted from veterans from other wars, including the Vietnam War and war on drugs.

Trump wants to not only rename Veterans Day, but he also wants to designate May 8, referred to as Victory in Europe Day, as "Victory in World War II Day." However, he didn’t specify if he wanted May 8 to become a federal holiday, like Veterans Day. Trump has not signed an executive order to rename Veterans Day yet.
