Premier League referee Michael Oliver is under police protection after receiving death threats in response to his sending off of Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The PGMOL, the body that oversees officiating in English soccer, says it is “appalled” by the “threats and abuse” aimed at referee Michael Oliver after his controversial decision to show a red card to an Arsenal player on Saturday.

The police have launched investigations into "threats and abuse" aimed at referee Michael Oliver and his family after Myles Lewis-Skelly's controversial red card in Arsenal's 1-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
