The "automated ball-strike challenge system" or ABS will be active during 60% of spring training games this year, allowing pitchers, catchers and batters to call for automated ball-strike call reviews.

It took just one inning for the Chicago Cubs right-hander to be the first player to successfully challenge a ball-strike call in a big-league spring training game, overturning a called ball from home-plate umpire Tony Randazzo to a strike against Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy.

The Chicago Cubs will kick off their spring training schedule Thursday, and they’ll make a bit of unique MLB history in the process.
