Virginia McCaskey, who inherited the Chicago Bears from her father, George Halas, but avoided the spotlight during four-plus decades as principal owner, has died.

The daughter of Bears founder George Halas, McCaskey watched the NFL go from a struggling start-up to the most powerful league in America.

When Virginia McCaskey would chart Bears games, she would have the pencil in one hand, her cards in front of her and a rosary in her other hand. The grace she exuded is how the Bears family remembers her.
