George Whitesides, the former NASA chief of staff, defeated Representative Mike Garcia, a Republican, flipping a hotly contested seat in the northern suburbs of Los Angeles.

Newly elected House members arrived for their first day of orientation on Tuesday, with many expressing excitement to hit the ground running.

Many founders wanted the President to be elected/selected by the U.S. Congress, a much smaller body of elites at that time.

Democrat George Whitesides has won a tough race to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Garcia in California’s 27th Congressional District.
