Minnesota agreed to a six-year contract with the Twin Cities-area native and former student manager for the Gophers who had the Rams within one basket of the Sweet 16.

Niko Medved, who just completed a historic, 26-10 season as men’s basketball coach at CSU Rams, will take the same position with Minnesota, it was revealed Monday morning. CSU athletic director John Weber confirmed reports of Medved’s exit for his alma mater with a statement released just after noon.

The Rams were eliminated from the NCAA tournament on Sunday night, and the Golden Gophers moved quickly to bring Medved back to his home state and make him the head coach at his alma mater.
