A hefty snowstorm is currently battering California's Sierra Nevada amid this week's atmospheric river, causing closures and delays at popular ski resorts across the region.

Places like the Pine Knob Ski and Snowboard Resort are going to be open throughout the winter because of their ability to make artificial snow, but many people there on Thursday said that the real stuff is better both for business and for skiing. "It's amazing. I love it. I want to be here every day, " Lily said.

At Mammoth Mountain, more than five feet of snow could fall between today and night as an intense blizzard passes through.

"The pattern is loaded in the Northeast through Feb. 16 with at least two different storm systems and heavy snow accumulation that'll bring 1 to 2 feet (or more) of snow to many Northeast ski resorts," Tomer said. Check Meteorologist Chris Tomer’s bi-weekly North America snow forecast here.

Across California, ski resorts like Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe are digging out after receiving multiple feet of new snow.
