Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins could be the ideal option to replace a polarizing player on a new team.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins's departure from the organization is imminent, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Michael Penix Jr. was named the Falcons' starting quarterback for Week 16, effectively ending Cousins' career in Atlanta despite signing a four-year, $180 million free agent deal last offseason. The decision came after the veteran QB threw for only 112 yards in a 15-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

"I definitely still feel like I have a lot of good football left in me," Cousins told NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" on Tuesday when asked about his future. "Time will tell. Still kind of uncertain. We'll get to March and know a lot more.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.'s promotion to the starting job in place of Kirk Cousins wasn't a surprise -- to everyone but Penix.

Before his 37th birthday in August, Kirk Cousins said his greatest wish is full health. "I'm no good to the Falcons, I'm no good to a team if I'm not feeling really good," Cousins told NFL Network on Tuesday.

Cousins says he suffered a shoulder injury in Week 10 against the Saints and never returned to full strength afterward.
