WASHINGTON -- Elon Musk’s days in Washington may soon come to an end and with it the future of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is also in question. According to the Associated Press, President Donald Trump told reporters this week that he expects Musk to return soon to his role as the head of Tesla and the social media platform X.
President Donald Trump indicated to top advisers that Elon Musk could be taking a step back from his current role, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.
Musk is considered a "special government employee" which means he can only work for the government for 130 days in a one year period. This means Musk will need to leave federal service by May 30.
