ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A hearing for a person accused of murder turned into a brawl in New Mexico. Alexander Ortiz is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Alianna Farfan last year. He was standing before a district judge in Albuquerque on January 31 when a brawl broke out.

Alexander Ortiz was arrested last year in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Alianna Farfan, according to police.

Alexander Ortiz stood before a judge in Albuquerque, New Mexico, accused of murdering Alianna Farfan. Then, during the hearing, police say Carlos Lucero, Farfan's uncle, suddenly leapt over the courtroom gate and began to punch Ortiz.

Police say Lucero suddenly jumped over the courtroom gate and began to punch Ortiz, causing the alleged murderer and an officer next to him to fall to the ground.

Ortiz was charged with first-degree murder, to which he pleaded not guilty in March, according to court records.
