Texas House Democrats who have left the state to block a vote on redistricting were hosted by California leaders on Friday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have appeared shoulder-to-shoulder with Texas Democratic lawmakers in a show of support for their nearly weeklong walkout

“We are running from nothing,” said Texas state Rep. Ann Johnson, one of a group of state Democrats who fled Texas to deny Republicans quorum. “We see the danger that is coming and we are running straight for it.”
