Skinny came to the Oregon Coast Aquarium shortly before its grand opening in 1992 after spending her first 17 years of her life at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma.

This week the organization that runs the Zoo, called the Sioux Falls Zoo and Aquarium, announced a fundraising campaign. It stems from a 2024 donation from T. Denny Sanford of 25 million dollars.
