Pregnant mother and husband drown while snorkeling on vacation in Hawaii - Maui officials responded to ‘snorkelers in distress’ on Saturday afternoon

The young couple drowned while snorkeling in Maui, leaving their 18-month-old son - who was staying with his aunt and uncle at the time - orphaned.

Family members identified the couple on their verified GoFundMe page as 25-year-old Ilya Tsaruk and 26-year-old Sophia Tsaruk. Sophia Tsaruk was pregnant and the couple also had an 18-month-old son who was not with them at the time of their deaths, according to the GoFundMe page.

CPR was performed on both victims, but despite the rescue team's efforts, they were pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services.

The Seattle couple was retrieved from the ocean by lifeguards, but died. "We know that heaven received and gained the three," a GoFundMe said.
