A special election will be held June 10, when Huntington Beach voters will decide the fate of two library initiatives.

Huntington Beach leaders on Tuesday went on the attack against a recent lawsuit that calls for eliminating some of the City Council’s most controversial library policies to restrict access to children’s books deemed inappropriate, saying the ACLU of Southern California is involved in “eroding away parental authority.”

The argument continues about whether Huntington Beach city leaders are censoring material that contains sexual content by removing it from the children's section of the library. "We are in a bit of uncharted territory given that no other library in the state of California or anywhere in this country has taken meaningful action to protect children from explicit material,

An Orange County judge had initially dismissed California's attempt to stop Huntington Beach from enacting a charter that would require ID at the voting booth, but an appeals court stepped in to recommend a full hearing on the merits of the law.

The election will be test for how popular some of the most divisive policies from the City Council in the last few years are.
