A Yankton man faces murder and manslaughter charges in an apparent New Year’s homicide that authorities describe as the decapitation of a Yankton woman.

At midnight, police shared an update that 32-year-old Craig Allen Nichols Jr. was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Murder, First Degree Manslaughter and two counts of contempt of court. As of midnight, law enforcement personnel were still on scene. At that time, police asked for the public to avoid the area.
