Executing on a fleet strategy announced during its recent investor day, Southwest Airlines has entered into a sale-leaseback transaction for 36 Boeing 737-800s.

Southwest Airlines ( (LUV) ) has issued an announcement. Southwest Airlines Co. has completed a sale-leaseback transaction with BBAM for 35 of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, resulting in gross proceeds of $871 million and expected gains of $92 million for Q4 2024.

Southwest Airlines said on Tuesday it had entered into a deal to sell and lease back 36 of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management, helping the carrier raise cash and ease the pressure on its balance sheet.

Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) shares are trading lower on Tuesday. The firm revealed a sale and leaseback deal involving 36 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The aircraft will be owned and leased back to Southwest by Incline Aviation III,

Southwest in 2024 unveiled a plan to improve its finances. The Dallas-based airline says this is an "important step" in that process.
