Sheriff’s offices and departments collaborate with county emergency managers to determine whether current conditions with the weather and roadways constitute issuing a snow emergency level. Since 1994, county sheriffs have had the authority to issue snow emergencies, using guidelines given by the state.

Snowfall will continue into Monday with another 1 to 3 inches possible atop the accumulation Sunday. CPS and a slew of other districts have closed.

Several counties across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky remain under snow emergencies Wednesday in the wake of a winter storm.

Heavy snowfall in the late hours of Sunday has led to a Level 2 snow emergency in Muskingum County, according to Sheriff Matt Lutz. Lutz said the southern half of the county has been hit harder than the northern due to heavy snowfall in the late evening hours. That, he said, requires low traffic levels so road crews can clear roads.

Ross County is under a level 3 snow emergency which means that roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel and that no travel should be happening unless absolutely necessary. Moving the county to level 3 is not something Sheriff George Lavender takes lightly.
