At least 26 people died and 17 others were injured when suspected militants opened fire at a popular tourist spot in the Pahalgam region of India's Jammu and Kashmir territory this week.

A gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam, located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 22, has affected the valley’s tourism sector, prompting existing visitors to leave and others to reconsider their future visits.

Police blamed militants fighting against Indian rule for Tuesday's attack in Baisaran meadow, some 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the disputed region’s resort town of Pahalgam.
