The men’s soccer World Cup first hired a female referee three years ago. The NHL has not had any women as on-ice officials.

Days after it was announced that Jen Pawol would become the first female umpire to work an MLB game, she officially took the field on Saturday.

Jen Pawol became the first woman to umpire in Major League Baseball on Saturday when she worked at first base during a game between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves.Pawol was set to work at third base later in the second game of the twin bill on Saturday before calling balls and strikes behind home plate in Sunday's contest.
