The Guardians opted to retain Steven Kwan despite multiple teams showing interest, while sending former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber to Toronto.

The Detroit Tigers acquired rehabbing reliever Paul Sewald from the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. Sewald, 35, has been out with a shoulder strain and is due back in September. He has appeared in 18 games this season, compiling a 4.70 ERA.

Although Bieber and Sewald will head to new scenery, the Guardians opted to keep All-Star left fielder Steven Kwan, who is under club control through 2027, despite a high amount of trade interest.
