Rescue operations continue in Umrangso, Assam, with four bodies recovered from a flooded coal mine, as authorities investigate the illegal operation.

A body was recovered on Saturday morning by rescue teams from the rat-hole coal mine at 3 Kilo, Umrangso area, in Dima Hasao district of Assam, an official said. This is the second body rescued by teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF),

Dewatering of the quarry, which is 340 feet deep, was continuing with specialised machines brought in by ONGC and Coal India.

Dewatering efforts continue at an abandoned coal mine in Assam, where eight miners have remained trapped since January 6. The dewatering is crucial for resuming rescue operations.

With the latest discovery of bodies, the total number reached four, with the first one taken out from the mine on Wednesday.
