Liverpool's spending spree continues, this time with the signing of forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported transfer fee that could be upwards of $100 million. Ekitike will fly out to Hong Kong to join his new teammates in time for the first game of their preseason tour, which will be against AC Milan on Saturday.
The victory over AC Milan offered a first glimpse of new signings Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, with the latter particularly impressive. Ben White and Bukayo Saka rekindled their connection down the right flank, catching the eye on more than one occasion in the first half.
However, it was Arsenal's 15-year-old academy products, midfielder Max Downman and centre-back Marli Salmon, who also impressed with their cameos and were the main subject of Arteta's post-match press conference, with the mood surrounding the club fairly postive.
“This decision comes as a result of the clear and unequivocal desire expressed by the player, who has made it clear he did not wish to renew his contract with Valencia CF and expressed his exclusive intention to join Arsenal FC.”
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Valencia centre back Cristhian Mosquera on a long-term contract. The 21-year-old adds further depth to an Arsenal backline that already boasts the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Riccardo Calafiori among others, and will wear the number three shirt in north London.
