LOWER BURRELL, Pa. — Crews worked Tuesday to clean what they could of a hydraulic oil spill that happened at the Braeburn Alloy Steel Plant Monday, where an undetermined amount of oil went into the Allegheny County River. Video from Drone 11 showed visible oil-stained ice along the bank of the Allegheny River from that spill.

After crews were able to contain the leak, now environmental groups are working to learn if there was any damage done.

A leak at a steel plant sent hydraulic fluid into the Allegheny River on Monday. The incident happened at Braeburn Alloy Stell in Lower Burrell around 3 p.m. The local fire chief says the leak extended for almost two miles before it was contained.

Hydraulic fluid was released into the Allegheny River from Braeburn Alloy Steel in Lower Burrell on Monday afternoon, prompting warnings to downriver water suppliers, according to emergency officials.

Hydraulic fluid spilled along the river bank in Lower Burrell outside of the Braeburn Alloy Steel Plant around 3 p.m. Chief Brennan Sites of the Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company #3 said they were not sure how much fluid spilled out but the Westmoreland County Hazmat Team was called in and they were able to contain the spill.

While officials are unsure how much fluid spilled into the Allegheny River in Lower Burrell, they have said that it is contained.
