Depends how long you stay at each area. The sanctuary has a little train that goes around giving access to the main areas, you can get on and off as many times as you like. I like to do a complete circuit on the train to get my bearings, then wander around. Great place to visit, regardless of the weather.

I thought general admissions mean that we can enter and walk around the park for the day. Does this mean tat we will be with a tour guide the whole day?

No, I think it just means confirm the day you want to visit. I booked online and just showed the confirmation at the ticket office.

It will be quite a long trip on public transport. Train from Brisbane Central Station and changing to bus at Varsity Lakes will take about 2hrs 10 mins. There is a journey planner for public transport (search translink journey planner) that might help your planning and options. Otherwise, maybe consider a shuttle / tour bus service. Hope you have a great visit!
